I think you're confusing "comfort bikes" with "comfort road bikes." From the marketing, the Sequoia is clearly a comfort road bike, in the sense used by Trek and other manufacturers. The 05 Sequoia is competing for the same market as the trek 1000C road bike, the Elite the 2100C, and the Comp the 2300C.
(Personally, the reason I never mentioned considering Specialized is because the nearest Specialized dealer is 40 minutes away, and the Trek dealer is 5. The prices on the Specialized are lower for what appears to be similar products.)
