Are you hidden by the "A" pillar in the car?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillar_(car) i.e. is the driver's view of you blocked by the pillar of the windshield? Can you see drivers in the eyes?
Normally I like to occupy the center of the lane when I'm stopped at an intersection. However, I also adjust for "real world" conditions.
