If you are doing this so you can get your girlfriend a ring, make sure she's in on it and supports it. She is going to be your wife, so you need to take the long view.
If you have doubts, just park the car, put some gas preserver in the tank and run it monthly to keep it up and let your insurance agent know how little you will be driving. All of these will save you a lot without making the big commitment.
