I can understand 1~2mm off of the mark, 4mm off means the threads of the spokes just disappear into the nipple, but 6mm is really pushing it.
Interesting. I just replaced a Wolber rim (brake track worn thin) with a Sun CR18 chosen since it had a similar published ERD. It built up fine with the existing spokes, so the ERDs were at least determined consistently between Sun and Wolber. These were 700c rims.
