The Thomsons are quite smooth and slick. If your seat tube is built to strict tolerances and not slightly undersized, you may have problem I had with the seatpost slipping. I finally went to alternative brands like Ritchey and, currently, an FSA. Neither alternative experienced and slipping. I found, for me, the Thomson overpriced and the alternatives did a better job for less money.
