garmin forerunner 305 best choice for bike/run?

My old Cat Eye (model from the late 80's) is kind of flaking out. It's been showing inconsistent speed readings during steady riding (huge swings both ways) and showed max speeds of 70-98 mph on my last few rides. If it's going to lie in my favor, I really wish it was something believable. Anyway, I think it's time for an upgrade.

The Garmin forerunner 305 with wireless heart rate monitor cadence is running around $220. I didn't see much negative feedback on this model expect it starts to cut off when the battery contact gets worn (it seems Garmin will ship a replacement in this case). The 405 has all kinds of bad reviews so I'm going to avoid that one.

So, I'd like a device I can share between cycling and running and it seems like this is the model of choice. Is there anything else out there I should be considering? I don't really think I need the navigation of the bike-specific models and would prefer to stick with a shared device for run/bike.
