My concern would be losing muscle in my legs. Running will certainly help with endurance and cardio. I think I would try alternating each day with a 3 mile continuous run and a session of wind sprints on the days in between. That will boost endurance, wind and keep your quads strong. The sprints will help with not losing muscle. That and eat protein or drink a protein shake within 30 minutes after each workout.
