The well equipped models can run from $1000 - $1500, the Airanimal top of the line model is even more but comes with DA groupset. I would check local bike shops because most will sell some kind of folding bike, that way you can test ride it and see how it feels. I don't think they're anymore dangerous than others but I haven't researched that to know for sure.
