Today I was on a 110 mile ride.
About 50 miles out on the return trip, I was on a 4-lane state hwy with huge paved berms that runs *directly* to my home town.
I tried a route in "bicycle" mode, and it plotted a route that added *30* miles to the trip.
I switched to "car" mode, and it plotted a route that added *11* miles by going 6 miles East to use an interstate.

Is it really too much to ask for to chose "Shortest path from point A to point B"??

Incidentally, my car GPS is an Alpine that uses a Navteq database, and it also has no option to choose the shortest path, and tries to put me on congested interstates at every opportunity. Who are the fools that design these products? One of the most valuable things a GPS *could* do is choose the shortest path to save gas, but apparently the designers are oblivious to that concept.
Well, I feel stupid now.
Today, while digging through the menus for something else, I found there is an option in
"car/motorcycle" mode for "shorter distance" vs "faster".
So I selected that, and will try it on the next ride.
