I never stopped in that Dalwhinnie pass area on my trips to the far north up the A9. I used to go through there thirty years ago in winter to get to the Cairngorm ski area.... It always looked at that time of year like the kind of place the government might have tested hydrogen bombs - bleak in the extreme, almost Martian.
