Derailleur-hangers are soft for a very good reason: In the event of something causing the RD to fly into the spokes, the hanger bends - NOT the frame. While this can be annoying and cause one a hunt for a replacement, it's much cheaper to contend with than a damaged frame.

Sort out the damage to the hanger by using a mixture of 'common-sense' and a tool such as the Park Tool DAG-2. And if you use a hanger, it's likely a good idea to keep a few spares in your collection.
