There's so much that can go wrong on a modern bike, I try to inspect before any ride. Wheels failing, frames cracking, bars coming off, chains snapping, etc. I know a lot of it can't be predicted, but I always try to check for these kinds of things before each ride. If nothing else, it provides me a little piece of mind.
Happens with steel frames too. Of course BF selection bias doesn't work its magic on steel frames because they're so darn "real."
