Help upgrading crankset on my flatbar roadbike (8-speed/10-speed issues)

I have a flatbar roadbike that I use for bike paths, riding with the family, etc. Basically, anytime I am not riding off road or going for speed.

Question...

It has a triple crank on the front (48/38/28) with an 8-speed rear cassette. All 'modern' stuff, but just lower line Shimano equipment (I basically bought the bike for the frame).

Can I install a modern (10-speed) Ultegra/105 triple 52/39/30 on the front and will that work with the 8-speed stuff in the rear? I believe my front der. will be fine as it is a bottom swing Shimano and the rear is a Deore setup.

Any help would be appreciated. I have a line on a nice Ultegra triple and I'd like to get it if it'll work. I have no problems changing chains, but I didn't want to upgrade yet to a 9 or 10 speed wheel in the back as the wheels on the bike actually aren't too bad.
