Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

  • Gas and tolls to get to our starting point (and home at the end) - $50
  • Hotels - $600
  • Campgrounds - $70 (a lot since we didn't use two nights we reserved, and NY State campgrounds run a scam where you have to reserve two nights, even if you're only using one.)
  • Food - perhaps $400 (including restaurants)
  • Indcidentals (museums, spending money, etc) - $200

That's $1320 for 2 people over 7 days, including a hotel the night before and a B&B the night after. It sounds like a lot, until you break it down and realize we spend $95/person/day - cheaper than a regular summer vacation, more expansive than past tours I've been on.

(We spent around $300 on new camping gear before the tour, but that's not part of this.)
