I used to live in Oak Cliff when I was a kid (a looong time ago). IIRC, Polk has some pretty good hills.

Anyway, the Sherman/Denison area is not exactly DFW but we do share the same heat. Before I leave work I will drink lots of water. I usually don't carry a water bottle except when the heat is extreme (105 is not extreme) When I do carry a bottle, I will put a wet cotton shorty sock over it...it keeps the water nice and cool. I use this to squirt myself and to get the sweat out of my eyes. When I get home and take off my cycling clothes it's like taking off a swim suit after climbing out of the pool...but not quite as refreshing. I then get a big class of iced something to drink and then I hop in a cold shower. Now I'm ready for anything.

BTW, I've only seen two other commuters up here...one looks to be a DUI'er and the other is a businessman complete with slacks and dress shoes. Neither has ever returned my waves.
