Yeah, let's look at the other side of the coin - Lance is found doping and the Tour organizers make it public. How does this appear to the general public in 2009?
Le Tour couldn't figure it out for seven years and it's an embarrasment - loss of credibility in their testing procedures and methods - viewership drops considerably because one of the most recognized is a fake, and probably a vast majority of the other riders who performed at the same level during his reign - people stop watching the sport because it's a circus full of dopers and the stigma will be hard to shake - Tourism during le Tour recedes - Livestrong is severly tainted - the $$$ and awareness for cancer prevention and cure research takes a hit - any other associations with Lance or the Livestrong foundation end - and on and on and on....

Look how much more there is to lose at this point, than just letting Lance quietly ride into the sunset (although he's proven that he still wants to be involved in the thick of racing).

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but at this point, it is what it is.

Yes, I'm aware of the history and just probably re-iterating why after all the "implications", he hasn't been actually caught, guilty or not.
