There are other things that move slow that aren't bicycles. Most rural roads are in existence so farms can operate. That means there are other slow moving vehicles on the road, you know, like tractors and large trucks and stuff. Also, cars and trucks pull in and out of hidden driveways on these roads. Just because the speed limit is 50mph doesn't mean you round every corner and blind hill at 50 mph!

What do you know... indeed...

The good thing is most people know this. That's why it's not really a problem out on rural roads with groups of cyclists. It's only the very occasional person who thinks they have to keep the gas down and are forced to cross the centerline as an emergency maneuver rounding a blind corner and coming up on a slow moving vehicle or cyclist who cause some problems.
Dude? You miss my point. There are people polarized about this. The one this is about is way over on the car side and others way over on the bike side with the majority I hope somewhere in the middle. Like I said originally, the issue is common courtesy. I can see your point and hers. I know where the brake is but we see a lot of out of staters who think you add at least 10 to every speed limit. Even slowing down, the speed differential between a car and a bike can be hard to react to. I think about this on my bike because I value my life. If you do something stupid on a bike you could pay with your life. Is it worth it? I guess i choose not to paint everything with such a broad brush. Does sending this person rotten or threatening e-mails do anything to change her opinion of a cyclist? Indeed, I may not know much, self admitted. But just as slowing down is common sense, so is not riding 3 abreast on a curving country road. Good luck!
