You know that just takes away from overall travel...right? Get the right spring for your weight and you won't need preload....or go with an air fork.
Why would you want an air fork? Still no air forks that compare to a good coil unless you're just a weight weenie and can't handle the fact that a few ounces is well worth it...
Increase your budget but don't get crazy with stupid extra features. Try a Fox 32 VanR (with the spring selection to play around with, OEM will usually only yield the medium spring) for value and performance...
