Is it just me, or is running 5 times more painful than cycling, for the same effort and time?

I've never felt the same pain on a bike like I did when I used to run maximum efforts.
I used to run a lot before some chondromalacia scared me off it about 15 years ago, and I remember experiencing exercise pain like no other when I did maximum 400s, 800s, 1500s, 3kms, 5kms, etc.
Perhaps it's because my warm-up for a 5km run around the block was virtually non-existent, compared to my usual rides, which involves at least 20min to 30mins of getting through side streets to the local drag sites
