It is pretty hilly here, you can do a 15 mile in town ride and have a thousand feet of climbing. I run a 42/17, about 67 gear inches, and if I am going to do a long ride south or east, where it is flatter I might go to a 16, about 70 gear inches, to move a little quicker.
