I disagree with this, mostly because the chainring he is running is 48 T. So by just going down one tooth in the rear he is losing ~4GI(?) which can be fairly significant. Also switching to 48/17 allows for more skid spots which is beneficial as well.
so should i just get 48/17? im in a hurry lol im about to go to the bike shop and i want to make sure i know what i should get
