Could've been one of those things that tells you how much power you're generating while on a ride, they've got a pretty big hub housing all the mechanisms.
Or maybe it's his 140 speed dura-ace. 2 front x 10 cassette x 7 hub. 0-140mph @ 90 RPM.
The most likely explaination? It's a stash and the hub's hollow...
