Yeah, thin slicks can work in the snow, you just have to be a little more careful. But in my case, if I go out I'll be riding a fixed gear mountain bike with 2.1" wide tires.

If anything my problem is the opposite, I tend to float on top of the snow at times when it would be better to sink a bit.
