Drawn to Ti/Litespeeds, but is it right?
I'm 195lbs, 6' and ride 20-25mi daily, about 19mph avg, sometimes longer weekend rides (but significantly slower). Currently use my trusty "classic" 1986 Cannondale SR400. Some might say I'm ready for a new ride.
For some reason I'm attracted to Ti and have been looking at some used Litespeeds, a Classic and a Tuscany. But some comments suggest it may be flexy in bottom bracket. But I like to keep things around (as my 'dale is going on a quarter century!), thus like the longevity of Ti. Besides, they look cool.
For someone my size is the flexy reputation of these older Lightspeeds a real concern? I tried a new Lightspeed Icon today at a LBS. Even on sale $3600 is steep. It felt really smooth compared to my 'dale, although it was more due to the modern components...braking / shifting. The ride wasn't the revolution compared to my old 'dale that I was expecting. It handled faster. I didn't notice much flex, but then the ride didn't include a real hill for me to put some torque into it.
Any advice? Should I let my heart steer me to these Litespeeds? Or throw in the towel to the carbon fibre wave since good new or nearly new models are going for under $2K.
