My opinion:
Advantages to road geometry: climbing, longer distances, lack of toe-overlap issues.
Advantages to track: all other things being equal, track will beat road geometry on the track any day.
I'd rather ride a nice old road conversion that a cheap new track bike- but I ride fixed as a winter bike to train for road racing and commute 40 miles round trip after the peak season ends. I completely lack any sense of street cred or street fashion (I'm nowhere near a posenger)... so take my opinions with a grain of salt.
