I have also slipped off pedals in the rain and scraped the top of my toes and foot on the road - clipless would have been nice in that situation.
I use cleated mtb platforms, so far none of my feet have slipped of the pedals, and sometimes it can be a bear to even reposition a foot on the pedal if I happen to get it misplaced, especially when pulling away from a stoplight with the motorist wolf pack nipping at my back tire.
