I had the same issue, and resorted to the same list. I have an aluminium seat post, and the frame and post galvanized. And thus I actually found that the Windex method worked best. At first I was skeptical, but I sprayed it in and around and still couldn't get it out. 24 hours later, it came out no problem. Just be sure you get it all off when you're done.
