Is 1.5 going to be the new thing?

I see they've gone from 1'' to 1 1/8

now I'm starting to hear about this 1.5'' stuff. Is there any significant advantages, besides having more metal up front?
I don't know. I know Cannondale went there when they started doing the Headshock and then used it for the Lefty...so in theory I could put a Lefty on there. I also know I road bikes they use a 1.5" lower bearing to increase stiffness on CF bikes (Cannondale actually did tests that show no significant added stiffness for an AL bike).

That is about all I know about it.
