Better yet, just have your local shop shorten your Al crank arms -- they can just drill out new holes that you can insert the pedals in. That will allow the OP to move his feet even further from the pedals and is much cheaper than the solution above.

You can get even more clearance by spreading your feet out a little. After the shop drills the cranks, have them tap in a couple of these bad boys to increase Q factor.
