I would have you consider my original recommendation. Find a chrome fork to replace your current fork. They are relatively easy to find and inexpensive. I keep an uncut NOS one on hand for just this purpose. There is a NOS one on ebay right now with a buy it now price of $24.70. Not sure it is the size you need.

There are several more on ebay in various sizes.
