Shimano calls it a freehub body. If that's what your problem is, hopefully you don't have a freewheel style cassette (where the bearings/ratchet stuff is inside the cassette; freehub style is where the cassette slides onto a fixed body, the freehub body, attached to your hub). Model number for the hub would be nice.
