any advice for newbie group riders?
  • Stay loose and relaxed. Our natural tendency when in an unfamiliar or possibly dangerous situation is to clench up. If you can resist this instinct and just follow the wheel ahead of you, you'll be fine. Staying loose also allows you to keep a fluid line, rather than making any sudden movements which can be dangerous.
  • Stick with smaller groups your first few times. Larger packs can be a little intimidating and coordination is never as easy as it is with just 3-5 other riders. Maybe even ride with just one friend a few times and get comfortable riding close to that person, signaling, taking turns at the front, etc.
  • Remain in your own comfort zone. Don't feel like you must ride within inches of other riders to fit in; especially strangers you haven't ridden with before.
