I was scheduled to ride the Crater Lake Century (did it last year too) until I saw the e-mail about the recent chip seal.

I have thrashed both my bikes and my body riding fresh chip seals. The residual oil and chips get caked on your tires/frame, and the loose chips can cause a "ground touching event" if encountered in a fast descent. As much as I wanted to ride, the chip seal caused me to re-consider.

Currently trying to decide if the follow up pictures from this weekend provide the confidence needed to head up there. Plus, I just got back from Tahoe, after figuring my Crater Lake trip was canceled, so travel/being away from family again might be difficult.

If I make it, I'll be in a DR jersey on my Trek.

Be safe!
