I don't have a picture to post unfortunately since I'm at work (on lunch break)...but I ride an older steel 6 speed Shimano 600 D/T shifter bike to work and back every day and REALLY enjoy the feel and simplicity of it. I've pondered upgrading to 9 speed d/t shifters on the same bike, but can't really justify buying (or building) a new wheelset to make that possible.
Kona I believe makes what looks to be a PERFECT commuting bike, ready built with new d/t shifters instead of brifters. I was impressed to see a company spec'ing a new 'decent' bike without brifters, but for commuting it makes so much sense I'm surprised nobody else is doing it.

Well there goes my above comment about Kona. Just checked out their 2010 catalog and they put brifters on the ***** tonk model, replacing the d/t shifter...guess they didn't do so well in sales.
Doesn't change the fact that I enjoy them. Will likely build myself a modern d/t shifter bike as a project someday.
Oh, and the Tektro levers are absolutely incredible for the price ~$20 at
