If the European builder originally started in say Portugal, and all of their frame building occurred in Portugal --- they are eligible for my money. If they originally made their bikes in Portugal 15 years ago, but have since stopped and are having them made elsewhere --- they are ineligible for my money.
Trek can sell their bikes wherever they want. They are not really an "American" company though because the majority of their bicycles are made in Taiwan/China.
If I wanted a Chinese bike, I would buy a Chinese bike.
I do not want an Italian bike made in China.
What's so f**** hard to get? You don't have to agree with me. But don't play dumb, either. And with that I'm done with defending my position. Spend $2000 on your "American" Trek. Spend $3000 on your "Italian" bike. All I'm asking for in this thread is for people to list companies where that company is basing their entire operation IN their original country of origin. It's about heritage. That is what I'm paying for. Subjective for you perhaps, very tangible for me.
