I ended up buying some Specialized Armadillo tires. The bike shop used a tool like the one sjpitts shows to get the tire on the front rim (which seems to be bigger than the rear rim), and I ordered one of those tools for myself. I didn't find Panaracer tires locally but I may look into ordering a set later on, since they've been mentioned here twice.
