I raced a lot in the 80s with Al in Masters Races.
I remember one time at Sauk Village during an early Spring Race that Al and I were off the front for a couple laps and the refs were enforcing the yellow line rule harshly. So, here was Al and I all by ourselves and he was slowing down in the corners to like <10 mph. I kept talking to him calmly, trying to guide him through the semi-wet corners so that the two of us could succeed, which we ultimately did. He could pedal all day, but he couldn't corner for crap.
