As far as BB and crank goes Phil Wood and Sugino XD 110/74 is a classic combo. If you don't want to spring for the Phuil Wood just get the equivalent Shimano, IRD etc.
Yeah a Phil Woods would be nice, but I don't think I want to spend that much money on a bottom bracket. One of the things I have noticed is some of the crank sets ship with the bottom bracket.
I assume that old 6/7 speed chain rings would not work well in a 9 speed set up. I have a few actual old school touring triples that I could use. They would only require a $20 square taper bottom bracket.
