Interesting to see the difference in e-bike specs between Japan and Ontario.
Most notably, the Japanese bikes are truly electric assist, requiring the rider to pedal. Most e-bikes I see around here are the hand-throttle variety, and most of the scooter-style bikes I've seen don't even bother with the pedals required by law. Ontario e-bikes are also faster (20 mph rather than 15), but I suppose even 15 mph is a little fast for sidewalk riding.
