Harder.

Almost everyone gets pulled from their first race (or three)... that's part of the game. Bike racing's initial bar is very high, and the effort required is very different than "just riding around" even if you are used to riding hard.

Keep toeing the line at races
Start riding with a local group

You'll get better - there is a steep adaptation curve, but you'll get there soon enough.
