Also, going fast is not nearly as uncontrollable as an "addiction". It's a preference and it can be done safely enough for most. My problem is I can't go fast enough.

For the benefit of others I like to describe a situation which happened several times to me and others.
We travel on roads we have not been on before. We use Road Bikes with 23 mm 120 PSI tires. Going down hill we reach speeds of well over 30 MPH without pedaling. That is the scenario and we are on a State class 1 or 2 HYW.
All of a sudden there is a step in the pavement where concrete meets black top. I mean a 1" or more step.
Another danger is Cattle Guards. These are metal grates put into the road to scare cattle into not going there. It also scares the hell out of bikers.
In my area there are huge potholes and often on the side of the road where we bike.

Going fast requires strength and endurance but also requires a bike made to go fast. I am saying that these made to go fast bikes are less safe in conditions mentioned above. That is all.
