A bike should not have frequent mechanical problems unless it is being abused or was not set up properly by the shop that you bought it from. It also has a warranty which should be honored by the shop and many shops offer 6 months or 1 year of free service. If having mechanical problems they should rectify them.

A bicycle is actually quite simple mechanically and anyone dependent on one for transportation should try to learn basic maintenance. The Soho has minimal adjustments to learn about. I have a bike I built up with a Shimano 8 speed gear hub and mine is working fine.
