Are you passing traffic on the left or on the right? On the right sounds sketchy to me, I doubt anyone pulling into a driveway would be looking for someone riding a bike on the shoulder of the road, much less someone doing 30+mph.
I definitely don't do that in places that would present that problem, trust me, before any of these cars would be able to turn I've long faded. I have specific places I can/would do this. And remember, I'm usually beating them off the line (we can do that you know) for at least a short period, so they've seen me out in front right from the light change. I also always make eye contact with the front vehicle at the light while waiting...gets you noticed.
It's just fun sometimes to see the looks...a bike out accelerated them, at least for a short while
