I really don't know what's "ironic" about that, a second pair of hands can always be helpful for such things if you aren't experienced at what you're doing.

And it's easier if you don't try to get the chain tight and the wheel straight at the same time; alternate between adjusting the screws on the drivetrain- and the opposite side, and do it in very small increments.
