GT used to be Gary Turner, a funny car owner and builder who started the bike company. He sold out to Pacific/Dorel, so the GT bikes today have nothing to do with the old ones.
I've not seen anything on their road bikes, but I did see a good review of one of their mtbs.
If you have a Performance near home they will probably take care of it for you if you have problems.
