I've got a 72 Sports Tourer with some of the same components on it. I use mine as a utility bike to commute, shop, tour & to pull my kids in a trailer. I was going to replace the crank that came with 54/40 rings with a triple because I figured I could never find rings to fit, but talking to my LBS, he informed me that I could still get chainrings for the crank because the TA Pro Vis 5 (cyclotouriste) rings will fit. So know you have options in case you want to customize. I went with a 42/28 combo which I love. They really are wonderful bikes.
