I've lived in the same place for the past decade because it's reasonable bike distance to work (shortest route about 7 miles) and within about half a mile walk I can find all sorts of stores, restaurants, public library, park and other services. It's just a quarter mile walk to a Wally Mart and a grocery store / strip mall. Bus stop is just 1 block away.
