I think the key here is to have more than one bike. I bought a Hybrid, then quickly wanted to expand my horizons. Now I'm not saying I was disappointed in any way with my hybrid, it is a means to do some of what I like about cycling. I just wanted more and for a cycling "rookie" to even see the pack on a group ride the hybrid was not going to cut it.
