Do you really expect us to believe that you've seen dozens of Ultegra-level bikes, like those the OP is considering, where the bottom brackets have failed?!? Difficult for me to believe that Shimano, FSA, and SRAM are having quality-control problems of this magnitude that I haven't heard about. Similarly, it's difficult for me to believe that sealed-bearing integrated headsets from FSA and Cane Creek are failing at the rates you seem to be implying.

Now, if you're talking about putting Uber-Clydes on $300-500 bikes with 2200- or Sora-level components, then I can believe there are problems. But I don't think that's unique to BikesDirect: if you buy a cheap bike with cheap components then you're likely to run into problems sooner rather than later...
