From OP, I assume you are 50+ and don't want a full out racing bike. You can get a really nice bike for $3k-$7k. I suggest you look at "plush bikes", as they are specifically designed for endurance/comfort (but still fast). The following comes immediately to my mind:

Cervelo RS
Specialized Roubaix Elite
